Challenge COMPLETED

March 31st, 2015

Day 31 of 31 Prompts (WOOT)

Self portrait and explain what you liked most about this challenge.

Day one of my March challenge also included a 'self portrait' aka, selfie. And five facts about myself. Here Day One (I wrote that quickly. It should say HERE: Day One, or something that looks better. I'm not changing it now.)

So I will post another selfie (or two) so you can see how much I've grown in a month (hopefully not at all).

As for the prompt, the thing I liked best about this challenge was the fact that it got me blogging consistently. I was really down on myself for my terrible posting in February. Writing is the one thing in life I know I can control. I just have to do it. Even if I'm not novel writing like I'd like to be, as long as I'm writing in some form, I will be happy (for now). Once I move, I will be getting serious about novel writing again.

I wasn't a fan of all the questions. The ice cream one was my least favourite, but that made me look for a new and better one. It worked out. It helped my creativity.

I can't think of my favourite questions. There were a few that actually made me work and think. I like the ones that make me want to write.

All in all, finishing this challenge has made me quite happy with myself. It made a stressful month less stressful.

Here are some Selfie Portraits of the day:

Windy outside.

19 Degrees outside. Blogging outside now that work is over! Best ever!

NEXT MONTH PLANS:
And I am going to do one more blogging challenge for April. I needed to find something different though because I've done too many generic challenges. I am not quite ready to just trust myself to write every day because of February. April will be busy, and I'm going to want to have a writing plan to keep me less stressed and more motivated.

I went to Pinterest to solve my unique prompt problems, and I found a solution. I'm not sure where the original is, but the website that I found the prompts was here:  http://heckyeahtumblrchallenges.tumblr.com/post/6395903121/30-day-open-letter-challenge-i-didnt-make-this

It's a letter writing prompt. 30 days of letters to different people or things. I think this is a bit of a lost art, and love writing letters, so I'm in.

  1. A letter to your significant other (or future significant other).
  2. A letter to yourself as a child.
  3. A letter to your best friends.
  4. A letter to the person who has influenced you the most.
  5. A letter to a celebrity you like.
  6. A letter of your choice.
  7. A letter to a celebrity you despise.
  8. A letter to a product/company.
  9. A letter to your parents.
  10. A letter to the leader of your country.
  11. A letter to the head of your faith (God, Allah, The Pope, The Universe)
  12. A letter of your choice.
  13. A letter to your body.
  14. A letter to your favourite teacher/professor.
  15. A letter to your community.
  16. A letter to your family as a whole.
  17. A letter to your friends as a whole.
  18. A letter of your choice.
  19. A letter to your boss (or somebody who bosses you around).
  20. A letter to your children (or future children, or children in general).
  21. A letter to someone who has bullied you or seriously hurt you.
  22. A letter to your worst habit.
  23. A letter to your best quality.
  24. A letter of your choice.
  25. A letter to someone who pisses you off on a regular basis.
  26. A letter to a stranger.
  27. A letter to your idol, hero, or someone you look up to.
  28. A letter to someone you barely know who has impacted you in some way.
  29. A letter to your day.
  30. A letter of your choice.

Also for this month:

In fact: I've decided that April will be my month of challenges. I'm also going to do a 30 day fitness challenge (and try to succeed), and a photo challenge. I'll try to update on here because then I'll feel guilty if I have to admit I missed exercising. I'll also add a picture a day for the photo challenge.

Happy Tuesday and end of March!

Personalities of Days

March 30, 2015

Day 30 of 31

What's your favourite flavour of ice cream?

I'm going to be honest. This is the worst question I've had so far in these prompts. It's not going to help my writing or my creative mind to talk about what kind of ice cream I like best. It's not going to help anybody reading know more about me. At all.

In case you really need to know: I'm not picky. I like chocolate. Or peanut butter chocolate chunky ice cream. Or apple caramel. You know... if it's ice cream, I'll eat it. Except for Tiger Tiger. Gross.

And now, I'm going to go and find a new prompt because I really don't like this one.

I just found a whole bunch really creative prompts, that look like a lot of fun. I'll use one of these.

http://writingprompts.tumblr.com/post/17477297690/my-28-most-tried-and-true-writing-prompts

They are prompts used for a high school class, but sometimes those are the most creative. And WAY more creative than my favourite ice cream.

Here is the one I choose for today:

Describe Each Day of the week as if it was a person.

I LOVE it! I've spent the morning planning it out in my head. Actually, I've spent the morning working, but have also been planning out which day would be my favourite person.

I know that Sunday is the actual start of the week, but I never really consider it to be. I think my first work week day is the start.

Which is why we will start with the very Mean Spirited Monday.

Monday:

Monday is an ass. They are just out for number one, and if they can torture people at the same time, they're ALL for it. Even though Monday is sarcastic and rude some of the time, you still kind of want to be friends with them. The friendship should make your life easier, if anything.

Tuesday:

This one is not only a bit of a follower, but they don't have much of a personality. The quiet one of the batch, that lets both Monday and Wednesday do the talking. Shy and timid is usually what you'll see when you look at Tuesday, but they're probably planning something big. (Or not. You'll never know.)

Wednesday:

Wednesday is the friend you want to encourage you. Definitely a 'glass is half full' type personality, and the eternal optimist. Almost an inspiring type personality. Wednesday knows that good things are going to happen, and are content just waiting for it to come.

Thursday:

Thursday is Monday's jerky best friend. He (or she) is a bully, and and will taunt you every chance he gets. He'll make sure to let you know you aren't quite there yet. However, even though you kind of want to be Monday's friend, you basically just want Thursday to go away.

Friday

Everybody loves Friday. Slightly cocky because they know everybody loves them, Friday is basically the life of the party. Need a laugh? Talk to Friday. Friday has a lot of energy, and it'll be a great night trying to keep up with Mr or Mrs. Friday.

Saturday:

Saturday is a mellow person. They're a good person to hang out with and do nothing but enjoy your time. Saturday is the best friend everybody wants. They are the perfect person to spend time with. Saturday is the whole package. Good looking, funny, smart, and so damn great. It's pretty hard to let them go.

Sunday:

As much as Saturday is your calm best friend, the person people really have an obsession with is Sunday. Sunday is the person you want more time with than you get. Saturday is the coolest of them all, and every second you spend with them is wonderful. You'll dread the moment you have to let them go. The combination of Saturday and Sunday is a friendship everybody wants to be part of. You'll be counting down the seconds until you can hang out with them. Throw Friday in the mix, and you'll spend your whole weekend laughing and loving life.

This was a fun prompt. I want more like this one.

Favourite Time of Year

March 29, 2015

Day 29 of 31 Prompts

What's your favourite time of the year and why?

I love Autumn. When Fall hits the city, I fall in love with it.

It's not just the beautiful colours, but also the crisp feel to the air. It's not yet cold, but it's not hot anymore. Don't get me wrong. I love the heat, but there's something about the feeling of the crisp Fall air on my face that I love.

It's crisp in the morning, and warms up in the afternoon. The weather is still gorgeous, but with the added benefit of the absolutely gorgeous trees. It's the perfect time to be outside no matter where you are.

The pictures below are a mix of Ontario and Saskatchewan Autumn trees.

Happy Sunday. :)

These days, I'm looking forward to Summer, but I'll also be excited for Autumn when the time comes.

Guilty Pleasure

March 28, 2015

Day 28 of 31 prompts

What's your guilty pleasure?

Sleeping. I love sleeping in. Weekends are my absolute favourite because I can sleep in. Mornings are my least favourite.

I consider it a guilty pleasure because I think sleeping in to be a bit lazy, and the least productive a person can be. I should be getting up, and getting my day going. I don't. I sleep in, and then I get up and start my day late. I love it, but do feel guilty about being lazy.

I also take naps. Not very often, but I do.

Sleeping is definitely my guilty pleasure.

Also Netflix. I can binge watch shows very well.

Online friends

March 267, 2015

Day 27 of 31 prompts

List 3 online friends that you've never met in real life, but hope to soon.

Does it make me a bad blogger that I don't have online friends I'm expecting to meet in real life?

Once again, Clint tried to help out by suggesting that he was an online friend that I met up with in real life. (Online dating). I had to remind him that he didn't want to meet me to begin with. (Because he knew he'd fall in love with me).

I've seen online blogging friends, and online friendships.

I've never had one. I have some people that I communicate with online, but I've met them before. Distance is what keeps the online relationship going. There are many people I'd like to see that I talk to online. I already know them though. Friends from different places and different times.

Anybody others are acquaintances.  I comment on the occasional blog, and I have people comment on mine (like, two people), but I haven't developed any friendships. (Yet). I can always use friends.

Since this blog post is teeny tiny because I'm not an 'online friend maker', (yet) I've decided to add a random fact about myself.

My decision making is the worst when I have fries in front of me. It takes me a very long time to decide which one I want to eat. True story. I'm a picky fry eater. I'll eat them all, but I always pause for about 10 seconds while I decide which one to eat next.

Why am I sharing that? Because tonight, I couldn't decide if I wanted to eat my salmon club, my fries, or my potato salad. Then I had to choose which fry to eat first. It takes forever. So I took a picture because I thought I'd use it as a "weird fact about Erin" post today.

You are welcome.

Happy Friday.

FOOD

March 26, 2015

Day 26 of 31

What's your favourite food?

I think from ages five through about thirty the answer would have been pizza. We used to have pizza nights when I was growing up. We'd make our own pizzas, and they were delicious. Clint and I have started doing that as well. It will be a fun tradition to continue IF we have kids.

I don't have favourites now. I've got foods I like more than others, and I have foods I really don't like. (Bananas).

I love breakfast foods. I love weekends because I can get up after a nice sleep in, and make us brunch. If Clint works during the weekend days, we do breakfast for supper.

Also. I love cheese and mushrooms.

That's the favourites.

Descriptions

March 25, 2015

Day 25 of 31 prompts

Describe your location.

Some days when I post, I use pictures more than I should. I've gotten quite lazy lately, and instead of describing, I take a picture. I've been relying on it too much.

That obviously doesn't work in novels. It's also something I need to work on in my writing.

So today, I will post three pictures for three locations. I'll do all the rest just by description. I like to keep at least one picture in my posts because it helps to share them.

I'll describe the three places I've been today (work, outside, and home.)

Work:
I work in a building with two floors. I work on the top floor. From where I sit, I can see over the railing to the second floor. I am in a cubicle, almost in the middle of the open space. Around me are four other desks, we are separated by half walls. (I'm short though, so they are me size.)

I have a blind on one side of me that I can close. (above). It helps me from freezing because there is a fan that is always going above the stairs. People are able to sneak up on my when I close it. I don't see them coming anymore.

My desk is always a mess. It's got my purse and personal belongings on one side, papers, day planners, and a binder full of contracts around my computer, and scrap paper full of notes I won't understand in a few weeks. Underneath my desk, I have shoes and a recycling bin. I have too many pairs of shoes at work.

We are the Creative Writers. Around us, there are actual offices. There's a side with windows. The broadcast and production studios are on that side, the other side has offices. Offices with no windows. I prefer my area. On the other side of the stairs, before the kitchen is the News department. They are also out in the open. This usually means if something exciting is happening in the news world, we hear about it.

There is a skylight over the stairs. It's nice when it's not covered with snow.

My city on the outside:
The city I live in is wet lately. When it isn't snowing, it's melting. My city was gorgeous today. Blue skies and sunshine (below). Which means all the snow we got yesterday is now puddles. It's hard to decide in the morning whether to wear winter boots or shoes for my walk to work. I walk down a busy street to get to work. It's full of businesses and apartment buildings. I turn onto another busy street, but this one is more unique. It has old buildings, coffee shops, and stores. During summer, it is home to the Saskatoon Fringe. I cross the bridge that takes me to downtown. That's where I work. Describing downtown is a whole other post. Today, I only went as far as my work -about a minute from the end of the bridge. (Walking).

Home for now:
Right now, I live off the first busy street in the main floor of a two bedroom house. There's a basement suite as well, rented by somebody else. The house is a disaster right now. Boxes and packing supplies are everywhere. It sometimes makes me a little anxious, but I'm pretty excited to move to our new house. A house for just Clint and I. I can't wait.

The living room is basically right next to the kitchen. Tonight, Clint and I made supper together which worked surprisingly well considering the little space we have. I've also packed most of our dishes, so we have two plates and two bowls to work with. I didn't think that through.

We half empty boxes separating the kitchen from the living room. Including a box the television came in. It's big and annoying.

The office - is no longer an office - and is now a storage space for boxes. (below). Clint has his computer set up in there still, but I've given up the room until we get moved.

The bedroom is the only place that the chaos hasn't hit yet. It will this weekend.

There is the description of my chaos. Oops. I mean locations.

Happy Wednesday!

Embarrassing moments

March 24, 2015

Day 24 of 31

Describe your most embarrassing moment

I'm sure I had plenty of moments in my high school life where I was shy, and couldn't handle any sort of embarrassing moment. I was so sheltered and scared of not fitting in.

Growing up and living life has changed that. I embrace my embarrassing moments. I find that it helps me get over things quickly.

Therefore, when asked about what my most embarrassing moment is, I can honestly say, I have no idea.

I'll talk about one story in particular, that proves I make things more embarrassing than they need to be.

I used to teach English in South Korea. We used to go out to a bar when I lived in Seoul called Tinpan. The bar offered cheap tequila and beer. I think many nights were spent there. Messy nights at times.

There was about a 15 hour time difference between Korea and Canada, so at times I would go outside and call Canada because my 2 am was afternoon in Saskatchewan. Basically, I'd have non sober conversations with sober friends.

Long story short, one night, the glass door was closed when I came back into the bar after calling friends, but being a few drinks in, instead of pushing it open, I tried to walk right through it. I bounced off the glass door just like they do in the movies.

I think the only person who saw me was the DJ. Of course, I ran up to my friends and announced that I ran into the door. Why? I don't know. It made me get over it. My friend, James, still makes fun of me for it.

Actually, HE makes fun of me because later on that night when I was coming back inside a second time, I ran into it again. Again, nobody saw me, and AGAIN, I ran up to my friends and announced that I hit it a second time.

A few weeks later, I saw another girl do it. I immediately ran over to tell her I knew how she felt. She probably didn't care.

That's the most embarrassing thing I can think of, and writing it down, it doesn't actually embarrass me.

This is me at TinPan. Different night though. This was after I dislocated my elbow after falling off a skateboard. (Also, not embarrassing.)

Until Tomorrow!

Hobbies... and deja vu

March 22, 2015

Day 22 of 31 prompts

Do you have a hobby?

I REALLY thought I had answered this at some point, but looking back I can't find another post to link it to.

Writing:
It doesn't feel right calling writing a hobby because I want it to be more than a hobby. I think that my blogging can definitely be considered a hobby. It's something I do consistently. I don't play games, I don't collect things as a hobby. (Other than what was mentioned in the Things I collect Post.) That's not a hobby though. I don't play sports.

I want writing to be a passion, not a hobby. I guess people are passionate about hobbies which means writing of any kind would be a hobby.

I looked up the definition so I could be sure.

Blogging is relaxing. It's what I do to de-stress. Writing is my occupation, but not the same kind. I'd like for novel writing to become my occupation. I'm pretty sure blogging won't become anything more than a hobby that I love.

It's something I 100 percent enjoy, and something that puts me at ease.

Speaking of hobbies, I bought myself a journal today. It's purse size so I'm pretty excited to start using it. It will be good for a 'gratitude' journal, and for anything else that comes to mind.

Clint also wanted me to mention that he introduced me to my new hobby. Fishing. He's correct. I do actually quite enjoy it. It's a great way to relax, and when I get bored, I can always write. It's nice having something we both like doing. (It is FOR SURE his hobby). Also, it's pretty exciting to catch a fish! At least, it was while ice fishing. I have yet to catch one in Saskatchewan during the summer.

As may be obvious from most of my posts, photography is also a hobby. I love taking pictures. I love making memories.

Happy Monday.

Alone Times

March 22, 2015

31 Prompts Day 31

What do you do when you're home alone?

I basically do the same thing alone as I do with Clint.

I take advantage of the fact that we don't yet have children by marathon style Netflix watching.

I write. Blogging or novel writing. (This is before my eye surgery).

I cook.

I drink wine. Not all three though.

And I play games that I hate admitting I play on my phone.

I'm pretty boring. Sometimes I eat peanut butter off a spoon.

Happy Sunday!
